Take meow-t on a date this Valentine’s Day - Petbarn Foundation runs ‘Pet Dating’ pet adoption event with local animal shelters

This Valentine’s Day, the Petbarn Foundation is playing match maker and inviting Aussies to find to go on date and potentially, save a life, by participating in Petbarn Foundation’s national Pet Dating event.

On Saturday 14 February, the international day of love, over 120 Petbarn stores across Australia are hosting a day of pet dates whereby locals can elect to go on a mini-date with a number of cute and cuddly animals that are looking for new homes.

The aim of the event is to raise awareness of the importance of pet adoption and encourage Australians thinking about adding a furry friend to the family to consider adopting first. Petbarn stores across the country have partnered with a number of local animal shelters including the RSPCA, The Cat Corner and Bendigo Animal Rescue, just to name a few, to offer pet adoptions.

On the day each store will have between four and six pets up for adoption ranging from cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs (the types of pets that are up for adoption may vary on the day). Last year over 130 pets nationally were re-homed at the inaugural Pet Dating event.

Scott Charters, Director of the Petbarn Foundation says, “The Petbarn Foundation is dedicated to ensuring every animal has a loving place to call home and Valentine’s Day is the perfect to time for us to talk to those who are thinking of adding a furry friend to their family. We encourage you to come in and meet some of the gorgeous pets that are up for adoption and you could end up saving a life.”

If people do find a perfect match they will be able to go through the pet adoption process in-store on the day. Most importantly, while the adoption fee set by the local charity is collected by Petbarn, 100% of this fee is returned to the charity. All cats and dogs are de-sexed, vaccinated and micro-chipped before being brought into store.

The Petbarn Foundation is committed to responsible pet ownership and animal welfare all year round and while the Pet Dating event only occurs on Valentine’s Day, 72 Petbarn stores have in-store Pet Adoption Centres that are always open.

“If you can’t make it to our Valentine’s Day pet date on Saturday 14 February, pop into one of our stores with Pet Adoption Centres, which are open all year round. Simply visit one of those stores and speak to a staff member about meeting some of the lovely pets that are looking for a new home,” Charters says.
