Sarah Gaul has trouble sleeping, so instead she stays up and dreams of a world where bacon is free, pilates is a forgotten fad, and rent money grows on trees. She writes songs about things that make her angry, and there sure is a lot to be angry about. The price of a cup of coffee is slowly creeping above $5 and the sodokus in the weekend paper just keep getting harder.

Sarah Gaul has taken her successful one-woman shows to Melbourne Comedy Festival, Melbourne Cabaret Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and Sydney Fringe Festival. Sarah won ‘Most Outstanding New Cabaret Work’ for her original piece ‘Good Grief’ in the 2012 Melbourne Short and Sweet Cabaret. She was a finalist in the 2014 International Cabaret Contest, and has played at Slide Lounge, as well as being a regular at Sydney University Comedy Events. As a playwright, Sarah was selected as an intern for the 2010 Playwriting Australia National Conference, and has work produced by Tantrum Theatre and ATYP, as well as work published by Currency Press.

“With a powerful voice, expressive face and excellent command of the piano, Gaul sings/talks to the audience like a brand new bestie…smart and funny, but also extremely energetic.” – Four Stars, Rip It Up

“Accompolished musican, beautiful and versatile voice…throws in hints of Minnelli and Streisand when you’re not looking.” – Adelaide Theatre Guide

“Check her out now so you can say you saw her before she was big.” – Heckler

“…no aspect of every day life is safe from the clever wit and barbed cynicism of this talented comedienne-chanteuse.” – Adelaide Advertiser

“…songs that had the audience in stitches with laughter.” – Theatrepress

Featuring a band and with a program of songs ranging in style from jazz to broadway to folk, songwriter, pianist and singer Sarah Gaul is excited to be returning for her second Sydney Fringe season. Sharp, funny, surprising and moving, Slumberland is a brand new all-original show from one of Australia’s most exciting emerging comediennes.
