Australian pianist Simon Tedeschi returns to Melbourne Recital Centre to celebrate the release of his latest recording and a national concert tour.

What You Need to Know
Simon Tedeschi, one of Australia’s most renowned pianists, is tackling one of the greatest works in keyboard literature, Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. A work that defies one single description, this masterpiece is an imposing mountain for any concert pianist to climb, a challenge eagerly accepted by Tedeschi.

“When I was asked by the ABC to record this work, I could scarcely wait to sink my teeth into it. Like any iconic piece, it is so famous because it traverses the centuries and transfixes us with its pertinence to the struggles, conflicts and fixations we face today.”

Releasing a new solo CD for ABC Classics in September, Tedeschi then embarks on a national recital tour performing Mussorgsky’s masterpiece. In Sydney, Melbourne and Avoca, Tedeschi will perform an all-Russian program including Tchaikovsky’s delightful and innocent Album for the Young, and Prokofiev’s altogether darker Visions Fugitives. Bringing his own magic to these works, Tedeschi promises an unforgettable evening of iconic, Russian classical music.

Quite often described by respected critics and musical peers as one of the finest artists in the world, Simon Tedeschi has performed in major concert halls throughout Europe, North America and Asia, and for world leaders including George W. Bush, Vladimir Putin, Nelson Mandela, and the Dalai Lama.

Tedeschi’s wide-ranging discography includes acclaimed recordings of concerti by Grieg, Tchaikovsky and Mozart, and solo albums Gershwin and Me and Gershwin: Take Two, and Tender Earth, all making the top five in the ARIA and Limelight Classical Charts. He also played the hands of acclaimed pianist David Helfgott for the Oscar-winning film Shine.

“True greatness.” – Sydney Morning Herald

“Tedeschi draws the listener into his world…a rare gift.” – London Evening Standard

“Powerful virtuosity…one of Australia’s finest pianists.” – Fine Music Magazine
