Melbourne Central has been supporting Streat since September 2010 when they opened their coffee cart in the centre. Fast forward to 2015 and Streat’s Melbourne Central coffee cart has served over 500,000 customers, providing over 37,500 hours of training to 321 young people. The Melbourne Central team sees Streat as an opportunity to do something for the community and to contribute to tackling the significant social challenge of youth homelessness affecting the Melbourne CBD.

The cart now sells coffees daily to rail commuters, Melbourne Central office tenants, students, shoppers, and tourists whilst providing training, work experience and support for dozens of homeless young people who sell coffee onsite.

Sleepless in September is Streat's annual campaign, bringing together people and organisations from across Melbourne to help prevent youth homelessness. The concept is simple: sleep out in Melbourne Central overnight to raise funds and support Streat’s Youth Programs.

Sleepless in September will be returning to Melbourne Central with the Sleepless At Central event on Friday the 25th September to help raise funds and awareness to prevent youth homelessness.

Kicking off at 7pm, there will be an abundance of activities to keep participants entertained all night long as they camp out on the Melbourne Central link bridge overlooking the lights of the Melbourne CBD.

Fantastic local musicians will play sets all night, and Matthew Butler from Zaishu will be hosting a “Pillowcase of Dreams” art, craft and stories workshop.

For those craving a midnight snack the Streat Chef’s will be providing their delicious soup with fresh sourdough and for the early birds breakfast will be available from 6am on the Melbourne Central link bridge.

To get involved, participants can register to sleep out or start their own fundraising events at home in one of three different categories; zero sleepless, a little sleepless or total sleepless.
