The Victorian Soldier Settlement Scheme was heralded as a new beginning. Servicemen and women returning from World War One were sold blocks of farm land to help rebuild their lives.

This exhibition uncovers the fascinating stories of these soldier settlers. From the establishment of the Scheme, and the communities that flourished, through to the hard times and abandoning the land. Discover Victoria’s little known inter-war history, and find out how the Soldier Settler Scheme helped shape the landscape we know today.

Soldier On: WW1 Soldier Settler Stories features records from the state archives of Public Record Office Victoria revealing previously untold stories of the Victorian soldier settler experience.
