Lovers of the world’s most favourite wine will get an opportunity to try champagnes from 45 different houses and growers showcasing their latest cuvées at Taste Champagne on Monday, 12 October in Melbourne and Tuesday, 13 October in Sydney.

Presented by BlackEvents and hosted by International Wine & Spirit Communicator of the Year 2015, Tyson Stelzer, the event will also be the launch of Stelzer’s latest book, The Champagne Guide 2016-2017.

The annual Taste Champagne event provides a rare behind-the-scenes look into the latest offerings from the world’s most famous sparkling region and a unique opportunity to discover unfamiliar champagne brands, while becoming reacquainted with familiar labels. At a time when consumers and wine trade are eager to explore new varieties, Taste Champagne offers the perfect forum.

Growth in champagne consumption in Australia in the past decade has ranked among the strongest in the world. Australia retained its position as the world’s seventh biggest champagne market in 2014, behind France, the United Kingdom, United States, Germany, Japan and Belgium.

However, in more recent times, “Sales of grower champagnes have crashed by more than half in Australia over the past three years, making us lowest among Champagne’s biggest markets in consumption of grower champagnes,” Stelzer unveils.

Taste Champagne is Stelzer’s response to this situation, purposely assembling a wide diversity of more than 100 cuvées from 22 houses and 23 growers in the same room. This unprecedented list features such prominent brands as Krug and Bollinger alongside famous growers including Laherte Frères and Larmandier-Bernier.

Tyson Stelzer is the definitive expert on champagne and has been internationally recognised as International Wine & Spirit Communicator of the Year 2015 and International Champagne Writer of the Year 2011. He will be launching his third book at the event, The Champagne Guide 2016-2017 named ‘The definitive guide to Champagne’.

BlackEvents specialises in creating exclusive and memorable events and draws upon a wealth of experience to run tastings and dinners in conjunction with leading prestigious wine houses, vineyards and restaurants Australia-wide. The event is once again supported by Antipodes Water and Riedel Glass. New supporters include Langton’s Fine Wines, Vintec and Porsche.
