The Stone River is a live art installation by St Kilda Stone Artist Cal Prohasky. Using uniquely individual pieces of Grampians Sandstones’ ‘dimension stone’, sourced from their quarry near Dunkeld, Cal ‘The Stoner’ Prohasky will create Number 7 in his Stone River series, live in The Sandpit’s courtyard throughout January. When it is finished, The Stone River, No 7, will measure 1m high x 1.2m wide and 30cms deep.

Dry stone walls have been Cal’s passion for more than 25 years, and working with the natural stone, a mallet and a chisel, allows him to craft stone features that are truly one of a kind. Growing up in country north-west Victoria, Cal learned to love the natural beauty of stone, and he is continually fascinated by its ever-changing textures and colours.

Cal will be creating The Stone River, No 7, Wednesday–Friday from 8am–12pm and Saturdays from 10am–1pm throughout January.

Make a date to drop in and see a master Stone Artist at work, live in The Sandpit.
