Please join us for the 2015 Wicking Trust Lecture on the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease.

Can dementia be prevented? Previous attempts to bring new drugs for Alzheimer’s disease to the market have been disappointing despite a high level of investment. However, the realisation that Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive disorder and that early intervention may be more effective has led to research efforts being focused on prevention.

The A$100m European Prevention of Alzheimer’s Dementia (EPAD) Project in Europe was recently launched and is one of the largest and most exciting studies currently being undertaken anywhere in the world. Led by Professor Craig Ritchie, the goal of this initiative is the prevention of dementia in people with evidence of the disease, who may still have little or no complaints or clinical symptoms.

We are delighted to host Professor Ritchie who will be here from the UK to discuss his latest findings at our inaugural Wicking Trust Public Lecture.

During his presentation, Professor Ritchie will also discuss how the Government, public health organisations, clinicians, the commercial sector (including pharmaceutical, leisure and food organisations) and ultimately individuals, all have a part to play in this ongoing conversation and future directions.
