Dr. Adrian McNeil is a sarod player and ethnomusicologist trained in the Guru Shishya Parampara of Hindustani music by Pandit Ashok Roy, Professor Sachindranath Roy and Dr. Ashok Ranade. This training took place over more than 25 years in India and Australia.

Adrian regularly performs in India, Australia and elsewhere. He has recorded for All India Radio, Doordarshan, Zee TV, Australian Broadcasting Corporation and has CDs with ABC/Universal Records and Underscore Records. He won a number of awards including being a finalist for an ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Award) in 2013.

He completed much of his doctoral and post-doctoral studies in India and has published widely on Hindustani music. His book on the cultural history of the sarod is widely recognized in India as the authoritative text on the subject. He is a senior lecturer in the Sir Zelman Cowen, School of Music at Monash University where he teaches Indian music, improvisation and is a sort after research guide for post-graduate research.

Rasa Duende is collaboration between internationally acclaimed musicians Bobby Singh (tabla), Adrian McNeil (sarod) and Damian Wright (flamenco Guitar) which explores the rich creative potential of the melodic, rhythmic and aesthetic meeting points between Hindustani and Flamenco music traditions. Their first album ‘Improvisations’ has been nominated as a finalist in the World Music Category of the ARIA awards 2013.

Adrian McNeil will for the first time collaborate with one of India’s leading tabla players Aneesh Pradhan for what will be a magnificent synergy of classical music.
