The construction of a Buddhist Garden at Enfield Memorial Park is the culmination of two years’ discussion with the Buddhist community in Adelaide. Significantly, it is the first public Buddhist cemetery in South Australia.

he garden was designed in line with the cultural beliefs of the Buddhist faith under the guidance of The Venerable Thich Vien Tri of the Phap Hoa Temple in Pennington. The site has been carefully laid out to face the ocean in the West and includes a four metre high statue of Buddha; a circular road around the statue; Land God shelters located either side of the area; Bohdi trees and an offering table. It provides for an initial 115 burial interment sites and 280 cremation memorial sites, with the potential for additional interments in future.

The development has now been completed and the Authority is delighted that His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AO, Governor of South Australia has accepted an invitation to officially open the Buddhist Garden. Representatives from all South Australian Buddhist groups will also be invited.

The ceremony will take place at the Buddhist Garden at Enfield Memorial Park, Browning Street, Clearview on Sunday 3 April 2016 at 10.00am. The duration of the ceremony will be approximately 45 minutes, with light refreshments served after the event.
