As things near the traditional end of Carnivale season - it’s time for one last instalment at this legendary space with a more informal and rootsy 'bloco' style of Brazilian street fiesta with Brazilian bands, Brazilian percussion groups, cultural dancers and traditional folkloric song in the heart of Brisbane’s Bohemian neighbourhood - West End - amongst the family friendly outdoor Boundary Street Markets!

We’ll be helping celebrate one of the Motor Room’s last shows before it closes its doors forever! Come join the festivities!

Here’s how last years fiesta went down!:

Bora celebrar a nossa cultura! Samba, Maracatu, frevo, marchinhas e muita coisa boa! A feira vai estar lá como sempre, e Vira Lata Food Truck vai estar presente com deliciosas comidas típicas e originais! Aquele sabor brasileiro que só agente conhece! A zoada vai ser boa! Nos vemos la!

Hosted by:

Som de Calçada who after releasing their debut E.P. Costa do Pacifico late last year, recently shook stages at Island Vibe and Woodford Folk festival and also brought in new years celebrations in Byron Bay! They’ll be combining their Brazilian acoustic MPB and roots music with members from afro-brazilian percussion group - Baque Australis Maracatu group and the Som-Ba-Sha dancers and joined by a sectret special guest! Playing fun roots song and dance styles from Brazil's North East - maracatu, samba de coco, embolada, ciranda and frevo!

Bringing some traditional carnivale marchinhas (carnivale marching songs!) alongside their hip and swinging style of samba rock (a mixture of samba/American surf swing/rockabilly and funk) and samba soul made famous by the likes of Jorge Ben, Gilberto Gil, Banda Black Rio, Tim Maia, Trio Mocoto, and Seu Jorge! The boys were also responsible for some serious high energy party action at Island Vibe 2015!

Baque Australis Maracatu Group (heavy Afro-Brazilian percussion). West End (and Australia’s) first Maracatu group bringing the thunderous sounds of the drums from Recife’s and Pernambuco’s streets!

Som-ba-sha dance group who fuse traditional and modern afro-Brazilian dance techniques and styles into dynamic performances. Co-ordinated by Sasha Mazzeu they recently presented the first ever workshops on ‘Frevo’ (a high energy/circus like dance style form the North East) in Australia at Woodford Folk Festival including BrazilFest - Adelaide, as well as performances at Island Vibe 2015, Kurilpa Derby, Swell festival and Australia Day! bringing Aussies closer to the culture of Brazilian dance.

Sabrosa DJs…mixing up all styles of Brazilian beats old and new.

And Vira Lata - Brisbane’s first Brazilian Food Truck bringing the tastes of Brazil’s sidewalk alongside innovative tweaks and twists on traditional dishes! Expect some surprises!

All under the stars and surrounds of the The Boundary Street Markets!
