Some of Australia’s most renowned blues and roots performers are rallying in support of community radio 3CR presenter, Steve Fraser, with a fundraising concert to be held in Melbourne next month.
“Concert for Steve” will be held at Cherry Bar in Melbourne on Sunday 20 March from 2.30pm to 6pm. The concert will feature blues and roots stars Jeff Lang, Kerri Simpson with the Gospel Belles, Chris Wilson (Crown of Thorns), Phil Manning (Chain) and more.

Steve sustained a serious and permanent brain injury following a diabetic coma, and remains in a brain injury care unit. He has a 13-year-old daughter and desperately needs support for her as well as for his ongoing care. The concert is being organised by friends, family, and supporters.

Steve was a long-time presenter of Night Owls on Rhythm at community broadcaster 3CR, as well as a former PBS and RRR presenter, a former (volunteer) Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society President, and a stalwart supporter of homegrown blues and roots music.

“Steve has been a great supporter of the music scene for many years and a fine person. He would regularly play our records on air and had us play live in his studio. We’d always catch up at gigs around town as he was such an active supporter for so many bands. He was constantly running fundraisers for community radio and supported musicians in many ways. The music community was devastated by news of his condition, and we’re doing whatever we can to give back to Steve and his family,” said Chris Wilson.

Organisers hope to raise a significant amount of money through the concert, with the performers donating their time, Cherry Bar donating the venue and production, and all donations going to a trust fund being set up by Steve’s family to provide for his and his daughter’s ongoing care.
