Join Blacktown Arts Centre for an afternoon of sharing and stories with the Pacific Islander and Filipino communities of Blacktown.

In the lead up to the premiere of the Disaffected, which addresses the vulnerability of our planet and environmental issues in the Pacific, Blacktown Arts Centre will host a free community gathering where local residents can share their stories and culture.

At the gathering, guests will hear stories about the impact of environmental disasters on local communities, have the opportunity to participate in traditional weaving (materials provided), enjoy traditional sweets and experience traditional music and dance.

The event will also include a screening a short film inspired by the themes of Disaffected, featuring the performers and interviews with local community members.

About Disaffected

Using arresting movement and imagery, Disaffected navigates through the Pacific to respond to environmental issues. Stirring both political and personal viewpoints,Disaffected seeks to understand what the rise of environmental disasters means to different people in different places, and what role Australia plays.

Disaffected is an immersive work of intricate stories that is highly charged, unavoidably dirty and utterly affecting.
