A Musical Journey from India to Andalusia!

A magical fusion of Flamenco, Indian classical, Mediterranean, Gypsy, Latin, Turkish, Moorish, Sephardic and Oriental sounds with Alin & Melike and Rosie.

Come on an engaging cross cultural musical adventure – travelling from the deep mystical sounds of India through to the fiery flamenco rhythms of Spain. Acclaimed flamenco duo Alin and Melike will be joined by the remarkable India inspired Sitarist & vocalist Rosie for this very special one off night.

ALIN & MELIKE: Alin draws on many years of musical studies in the Middle East and Australia. Not surprisingly he has brought a distinct Arabic flavour to his music. His outstanding guitar artistry is the perfect compliment to Melike's dramatic vocals. Flamenco and oriental music have played a major role in Melike’s musical life. Blessed with a unique singing talent from a very early age she has received both vocal and guitar training from several world famous teachers. Over the past few years Alin and Melike have forged a unique musical partnership with numerous club and concert performances, thrilling audiences with both their passion and wonderful musicianship.

ROSIE: During her early childhood Rosie attended a boarding school situated in the foothills of the Himalayas in Dharamsala India, where she learnt sitar from the age of nine along with the dynamic Kuchipurdi dance style. A natural at sitar, dancing and singing Rosie often performed before crowds of thousands in India from the age of ten. Once resettled in Australia, she continued to study and perform music - in the contemporary as well as the classical Indian realm. 2014 saw Rosie as a singing contestant on ‘The Voice Australia’, under the guidance of Kylie Minogue, where she delivered three outstanding performances.

The concert will also feature two special guest artists Byron Mark on percussion, and Maharshi Raval on (Tabla).

Byron is a professional percussionist, pianist and composer based in Sydney with a strong passion for African and Flamenco drumming. He has travelled to both Spain and Africa to study the rhythmic roots of the Cajon and Djembe, and regularly performs on these instruments along with various artists.

Maharshi is a promising tabla player from Benaras Gharana (school) living in Sydney. Maharshi is a student of Pt. Pooran Maharaj and Late Pt. Nandan Mehta, disciples of the legend of Benaras Gharana Late Pt. Shri Kishen Maharaj and has been learning for the last 26 years at Saptak School of Music in Ahmedabad. He has travelled extensively nationally and internationally to various parts of the world to give concerts at festivals, some concerts including his own conducted and directed recitals and has accompanied Indian Classical Vocalists, Instrumentalists, Kathak Dancers and also won 1st prize for National Youth Festival Tabla Competition in 1994 at Jaipur. He could be also recognised from the Australian national television shows like X-Factor with India Rose on channel 7 and in Good News week with Sarangan on Channel 10.
