Fresh Comedy’s September show explodes out of the blocks with a first class line up, headlined by award-winning comedian Luke Heggie (ABC TV’s Comedy Up Late, The MICF Allstars Gala). Plus supports Mick (The Cripps Ambassador) Davies and Jake Baylis. Hosted by Stewart Bell.
Luke Heggie:
Luke Heggie started stand up comedy at an Australian Raw Comedy heat in 2010. Four gigs later he was crowned The National Raw Comedy Winner and set off to Edinburgh Fringe. His no-nonsense one liners delivered in a dry, dead pan manner were garnering praise in Australia and abroad.
Luke was chosen in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival's Comedy Zone for up and coming comedians in 2011, and in 2012 performed his first full hour show Master of None. This show earned him a nomination for Best Newcomer at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and the show toured Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane. The momentum from this, and relentless club gigs around Sydney earned Luke the title of Time Out Sydney's Best Comedian 2012.
He then performed at the New York Comedy Festival in late 2012, and was chosen to perform at The Sydney Opera House as Stephen Merchant's support act during his 2012 tour of Australia.
In 2013, Luke Heggie toured his second stand-up show Mega Dry, loosely based around working in a bottle shop. This show was taken to Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland. He was also chosen to be a part of the Montreal Just for Laughs Australian showcase at the Sydney Opera House for the Comedy Channel.
In 2014, Luke's third solo hour Bush Week has toured Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Auckland, and Wellington. It was based around dickheads he's met in hostels, and it was funny.
In 2015, Luke won the Director's Choice award at the Sydney Comedy Festival for his show You're not special. He toured this show nationally also.
2016 saw Luke perform at Melbourne International Comedy Festival's Opening Night Allstars Super show. His show Anythink is possible went on to sell out festival runs in Melbourne Sydney, Canberra and Perth, and returned to be filmed at the Enmore Theatre for ABC2.
Luke is fast becoming one of Australia's most in demand and recognisable stand-up comedians.
