Bangladesh, banking and the Bee Gees are an unlikely love triangle, and source of humour. But not for writer, lawyer and storyteller Mark Swivel.

On a quest to unlock the secrets of micro-finance, he went to Bangladesh to learn from the masters – Muhummad Yunus and Grameen Bank, who use small loans to help lift people out of poverty. They are so good they won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 (Look, he wanted to make a difference, and what can you do, rejoin the Labor Party?). Along the way Mark learns shampoo is black and cauliflower is a much-loved vegetable. He meets Dr Yunus and a cast of fabulous characters.

In a crowded comedy world, this seriously funny show is part Spalding Gray with a touch of William Yang. Touring in 2016, How Deep is Your Love comes to The Sound Lounge from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival after sell out shows at the Factory in Sydney, Mullum Music Fest and the Judith Wright Centre in Brisbane. Mark recently got a much-coveted Koala Stamp from Philip Adams on Late Night Live. Syke on Stage said: ‘What is it? A play. No. Theatre? Um, not sure. Comedy. Yep. Well, it’s funny. He’s funny. Actually, whatever else it is — it’s probably the most informative, edifying and entertaining slide night you’re ever likely to attend’.
