InkFest 16 is well under way and this is the last of the weekend workshops that are being offered. This is a great opportunity to explore or extend your interest in printmaking under the guidance of our nationally known artist-in-residence Jenny Kitchener. Thanks to our partner TAFE for the use of their studio.

Jenny is an outstanding Australian Printmaker and we thank her for coming to Cairns to work with us. She exhibits regularly, is the winner of several prestigious prizes and represented in major public and private collections.

Pattern, repetition and rhythm play a part in nature and feature in Jenny's prints. She has been seduced by the humble linocut which has become the ideal matrix from which a multitude of insects, birds, flowers, leaves, scissors and other ephemera emerge.

Linocut is a printmaking technique in which a design is cut into lino with a special tools. The raised areas are inked with a roller and impressed onto paper or fabric, with a printing press or by hand.
In this workshop Jenny will show the techniques of lino cutting and then take you much further than the single colour print. You will learn how to print over a prepared or ready-made coloured background and how to use coloured papers to create tones, textures and patterns in your image.
The print you produce in the workshop will be exhibited at Tanks 29 Jul - 21 Aug - this is included in the cost of the workshop.

Fee $ 220 financial members - $250 non-members (includes membership) All materials including tools are provided.
