With a #5 record in the UK Album charts this week and sold-out dates at venues like London’s Hammersmith Apollo, acclaimed US singer/songwriter John Grant returns to Australia in March 2016, to perform two very special headline shows – Melbourne’s The Forum on Sunday 13 March and Sydney’s Metro Theatre on Wednesday 16 March. The shows come off the back of Grant’s newly released third studio album: Grey Tickles, Black Pressure, out now via Bella Union/[PIAS].

Led by the fizzing electronic pop of first single ‘Disappointing’ feat. Tracey Thorn (Everything But The Girl) – which he performed on “Later With Jools Holland” in early October, watch it here – Grant’s latest release is testament to a truly original talent. Recorded with producer John Congleton (St Vincent, Modest Mouse, Franz Ferdinand) in Texas, it features guest spots by Thorn, Amanda Palmer, and ex-Siouxsie and the Banshees drummer Budgie, who is also touring live. While in Australia, Grant will perform at two stellar festivals – Melbourne’s Golden Plains and Adelaide’s Womadelaide.

Throughout his impressive career, Grant has carved a niche for himself as a master lyricist and performer. Just a few of the accolades he’s gathered so far include: ‘Best Album’ (MOJO), ‘Man of the Year’ (Attitude), Brit Award nomination for Best International Male Solo Artist (2014) and Rough Trade’s ‘Album Of The Year’. His UK and European dates quickly sell out, while a recent US trek saw him tour as the special guest of indie rock icons Pixies.

After making his name fronting Denver band The Czars, Grant delivered his solo debut with 2010’s stunning Queen Of Demark, recorded with Texan folk-rockers Midlake. 2013’s Pale Green Ghosts was next, featuring the vocal talents of friend and fan Sinead O’Connor on the excellent ‘GMF’ (listen here), plus singles like ‘Glacier’.

Now a resident of Reykjavik, Grant recently lent his considerable talents to Ásgeir, completing the English translation for the singer’s hit album In The Silence. Grant has performed alongside names like Elton John, Hercules and Love Affair, Gus Gus and Goldfrapp. Now, with Grey Tickles, Black Pressure, he’s unveiled his finest work yet.

Don’t miss John Grant live in Melbourne and Sydney in March 2016.
