Renowned British art lecturer Michael Howard MA (Courtauld) BA (Hons) FRSA is the leading authority on L.S.Lowry, who, with David Hockney, is England's most popular twentieth century painter - and Lowry's popular image is far removed from the reality of his life and his art. Though famous for painting the mills and factories of the industrial north-west of England, Lowry was really a painter of the human condition. He is an artist whose work is the visual counterpoint of T.S. Elliot’s and bears striking parallels with the deeply touching work of van Gogh.

Can such claims be justified? Come and judge for yourself at the Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society lecture on Tuesday 2 July. The lecture will be fully illustrated with examples of Lowry's work. Guests are invited to attend, and refreshments will be served after the lecture. Please be seated by 6:15pm.

The event will be held at the Sir Raymond Ferrall Centre.
