Join Conservation Volunteers Australia this SeaWeek2016 as we head to the Mackay Harbour beach to conduct a marine debris survey in an effort to clean up our local beaches and raise community awareness of the types of rubbish leaving our hands and entering the marine envrionment.

Seaweek is the Marine Education Society of Australasia's (MESA) major national public awareness campaign. It is conducted annually to focus community awareness, provide information and encourage an appreciation of the sea.

Marine debris poses a threat to people, kills marine life and damages or alters habitats, reduces navigation safety, and can have substantial economic impacts on local communities.

Volunteers will participate in a beach clean up before sorting and recording the quanities in an attempt to determine the sources of rubbish most prominant along our coastline.

Conservation Volunteers accommodation is not available on this project, but all levels of tourist accommodation are available in Mackay, from backpacker hostels to high-quality hotels. A team leader collects local and visiting volunteers daily from pick-up points in the city.

Volunteers need to bring and wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, boots or sturdy shoes, and a broad-brimmed hat. It is also recommended that volunteers bring and use sun-screen (30+) and tropical-strength insect repellent.
