Bird's Basement is a new classy Jazz Restaurant-Club, affiliated with New York's 'Birdland' , which presents two lengthy sets each evening - a dinner & a supper show. Early doors open from 6pm and showtimes are 7.45pm and 10pm. A new and exciting venture in Australia's Jazz capital,

The John Montesante Quintet (aka JMQ) is a stylish, horn-led ensemble formed in 1990. Influenced by Bebop, the band offers a modern take on Blue Note standards as well as Montesante's special Jazz arrangements. The JMQ has gained respect in the discerning jazz scene due to its quality musicianship, versatility and entertainment value that always engages its audience.

The featured artist for the JMQ Jazz Ensemble's debut performance at Bird's Basement is Rebecca Mendoza, one of Melbourne's favourite jazz singers. Growing up in a showbiz family, with a jazz pianist father and professional dancer mother, Rebecca was born to perform, gracing the stage in many roles and evolving into a seasoned performer. Her early influences were Sarah Vaughan, Diane Schuur and Nancy Wilson and her jazz journey has been one of ongoing discovery. Her passion and talent has taken her around the globe, from Toronto to Japan, Germany to New York, London to Los Angeles - performing onstage and writing songs with some of the best in the business. She has featured with JMQ Jazz Ensemble on many occasions since, and every show has been really special.

This evening she will feature with an outstanding JMQ line up of:
Michael Harding (piano), Ben Robertson (double bass), Niko Schauble (drums), David Rex (saxophone) & John Montesante (trumpet/flugelhorn).
