"'Continental' features a field recording of water lapping in a Venice canal. It's not about brexit. It is about selfie sticks, love, photo albums and tourism. The song was written in a Venice hotel room, recorded in Berlin and Sydney, and mixed and mastered in Melbourne." - Retiree
After a long period of geographic dislocation and song writing, Sydney's Retiree have spent a stint locked in a beach house somewhere on the east coast to stretch and solidify a bunch of new music, of which 'Continental' - out now through Plastic World - is the first offering. We hear Retiree's signature danceable warmth, immersive melodies and interlocking live and programmed drums, but also a solemn undertone and depth which is indicative of Retiree's musical trajectory.
Retiree will be launching their new track, and unveiling a bunch of new material, at Boney on Saturday 29th October, joined by Shouse, Corin and more TBA.
