Find your African beat this summer at Werribee Open Range Zoo!

Rhythm of Africa returns with live music, African-inspired food, dancing, drumming and kids’ activities every Saturday evening from 9 January to 27 February.

This year’s line-up features a mix of contemporary and traditional African music from local bands, including the Ghanaian rhythms of Akoma Beat and the African Royal Drummers, Congolese dance hall music from King Bell and Soukous Ba Congo and contemporary African funk with Afro Mandiko and Lamine Sonko and the African Intelligence.

The evening begins at 4.30pm with special performances for the kids along with face-painting and hair-braiding, before the headline act begins at 5.30pm. Throughout the night kids can make their own music with free drumming workshops led by Shabba Eshun and enjoy special kids’ activities in the African Village.

There will be African-inspired food and drinks available for purchase or visitors are welcome to bring their own blankets, hampers and beverages for a relaxed picnic.

Rhythm of Africa is an all-weather event and entry is included in the general zoo admission price. Children under 16 receive free entry to Werribee Open Range Zoo on weekends, school holidays and public holidays.
