Emmanuel T. Santos' collection 'Sacred Dances' will be on display at Portfolio, enlivening the space and corresponding with the soundscape created by Japanese duo 'Matsumoto Zoku', who will be presenting an amalgamation of Indigenous Australian, Japanese and Swiss influenced pieces.

Born in the Philippines, is Australia based documentary and art photographer. He has traveled extensively creating photo essays on tribal traditions, highlighting the universality of human existence. Most of his work in the past three decades has focused on the Jewish, the Greek Diaspora and cultures of antiquity.

Santos has been commissioned to produce various photographic projects and publications for private, public and commercial institutions. Currently, he is the senior curator of Obscura Fine Art Gallery in Melbourne.

His portfolios are in the theme of nomadic portraits, visual interpretations of ancient myths and legends and the ongoing cultural evolution in the independent countries of the former soviet union.
He has regular solo exhibitions and lectures in major cities throughout the world.

Matsumoto Zoku.

In the summer of April 2009 on a rooftop in Varanasi India, Koji and Reo met for the first time. Reo Matsumoto - a breath musician and Koji Matsumoto - a didgeridoo and hang artist began to play together; inspiring a new calibur of transcendental music that acts to captivate the listener and transport them from some of the busiest street corners in the world to a place of quiet and contemplation. Matsumoto Zoku will be performing at Portfolio on the 8th of April 2016. Inviting all those who wish to be taken through a narrative of sound in a 2 hour set list to witness the announcement of art unseen made known.

Levels at Portfolio

Levels at Portfolio is a project space committed to developing and enhancing emerging artistic talent. The globally recognised Hans-Ulrich Obrist curated some of his first exhibitions inside the bathroom of his apartment to show that art can be displayed anywhere, any time and without limitations. We take this notion on board with Levels Project Space at Portfolio as it is a space within a stairwell, a space of transition and development for artistic exploration.
