Holiday Fun at Melbourne Star gives kids a new view of the city.

See the city like never before throughout the school holidays with exciting activities planned at the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel, the only giant observation wheel in the Southern Hemisphere.

One of Victoria’s highest profile attractions, the Melbourne Star offers a 30-minute journey in the air-conditioned panoramic cabins, which give passengers stunning 360-degree views of Melbourne and beyond, while audio commentary reveals hidden stories of the world below.

Whether you fly in daylight – admiring the ever-changing port, fast-flowing freeways or million-dollar yachts berthing in the harbour – or after dark to enjoy the dazzling multi-coloured LED light display to celebrate the football finals season; or even chase Pokémon as you glide through the sky, there is plenty to see and do.

To celebrate the school holidays, Sonic the Hedgehog will visit Melbourne Star three times daily at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. The protagonist of a video game created and owned by Sega, the wisecracking blue hedgehog is capable of running at supersonic speeds to save the world from a variety of threats. Kids can spin Sonic’s prize wheel, located at The Star Shop, for a chance to win a range of exciting prizes.

Also throughout the holidays, which begin on September 17, is the School Holiday Flying Funfair. Families can enjoy the excitement of the carnival with kids receiving a free ride* in the dodgem cars at Wonderland EL, beneath Melbourne Star at Harbour Town, with the purchase of each standard child admission ticket. (*Offer is not valid in conjunction with any other offer from September 17 to October 2).

And from Thursday September 1, Melbourne Star will light up in the colours of eight AFL teams to celebrate their progression to the finals. As each team drops out of grand final contention, their colours will be removed from the night sky leaving one eventual grand final winner. The lighting extravaganza has been created using three and half kilometres of LED lighting engineered into the structure of the giant observation wheel. It can generate more than 15 million different light combinations.

“Footy fans can receive 25 per cent off* a full-price single admission ticket, by logging onto Melbourne Star’s Facebook page, viewing our Footy Finals Fever posts which include a code - simply enter this code when booking your tickets at www.melbournstar.com to receive your footy finals discount” Mr Cox said. (*Offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer and is valid from September 1 to October 2).

Melbourne Star is just the start of a day’s entertainment at Melbourne’s Harbour Town and Docklands precincts. Shop till you drop at two major retail centres and indulge at the many eateries and bars. Explore more than 45 art installations, roar with the crowds at Etihad Stadium or get your skates on and hit the ice at Australia’s premiere ice-skating destination, the O’Brien Group Arena.
