Random weaving is an ancient basketry technique which has recently opened up new and exciting avenues for sculptural construction. The tutor Meri Peach, a professional basket maker and fibre sculptor, will guide students through the preparation and use of rattan cane, locally available vines, and other plant materials.

Students will be taken through basic random weaving skills before exploring methods of creating more complex forms. They will then use these versatile free form techniques to create their own fibre sculpture.

Included in the workshop will be discussion around the history and culture of random weaving, explanation of gathering and preparation of materials, and demonstrations followed by one-to-one instruction.

Notes and all materials will be provided. Students please bring your lunch, a pair of sharp secateurs, a large plastic bag and an old towel.
