Join the Tiwi Strong Women’s Group in a special one off performance as they sing in the exhibition galleries of Being Tiwi. Hear the amazing voices of these respected senior members who have been singing together from a young age and enjoy this strong connection of cultural expression from the Tiwi Islands.

Led by senior song man Eustace Tipiloura, dancer Barry Puruntatameri and elder culture woman Calista Kantilla, the group are the traditional owners and custodians of ceremonial Tiwi dance and song. As close family to the participating artists represented in the exhibition they are proud to sing with the artworks and bring to Sydney the songs and dances that both reflect and embody the essence of being Tiwi, telling the stories of their ancestors, their land and their people.

Performers include Eustace Tipiloura, Barry Puruntatameri, Francis Orsto, Cynthia Puruntatameri, Teresita Puruntatameri, Leonie Tipiloura, Calista Kantilla, Karen Tipiloura, Mary Elizabeth Moreen Mungatopi and Jacinta Tipungwuti.
