Using a myriad of different tunings, Thomas is one of the few who play electric the way it should be and acoustic the way it shouldn't. Influential guitarists Ani DiFranco and Kaki King are buried in Thomas's acoustic style. He uses his techniques tastily, tapping and pulling at the strings, leaving his guitars exhausted. Thomas has supported many of his influences including, Geoff Achison, Lloyd Speigel, Liz Stringer, Shane Howard, Daniel Champagne, Harry Manx and has performed at festivals all around the nation: Fairbridge Folk Festival, Bridgetown Blues and Roots Festival, Nannup Music Festival, Brunswick Music Festival, Forth Valley Blues Festival, Cygnet Folk Festival, Fremantle Festival, Nanga Music Festival and more.
This, along with his unnerving ability on guitar, has earned Thomas national respect as an independent Australian artist, and his talent as a musician is quickly building him an international audience. After releasing his first EP 'Until Now' during his national tour, he soon filled a swag full of material for his latest album 'Deep Sea Blue', a beautiful journey from childhood to adulthood boasting the touch of great players including Angus Diggs (Mia Dyson, Jeff Lang), Gavin Shoe smith (John Butler Trio), Roy Martinez (Dave Mann Collective) and Jean-Guy Lemire making ‘Thomas Mitchell.. a name you’re going to hear a lot more of’ - ''ABC Radio''
