Vanishing Shapes, are on tour again this July! With a van full of kooky progressive folk music sporadically bursting at the seams in townships and cities from Melbourne up to Bellingen! Performances will blend the familiar sounds of various trad styles, to the other-worldly soundscapes and breakneck syncopations of our own making. Audiences can feel free to indulge in the wild range of sounds, whether that be through dancing, crying or escaping to other dimensions.

Join us at Melbournes most musical crepery - Open Studio. You'll have the pleasure of seeing two fine chaps known as the Bean Project and then a Shapey set!

The Bean Project: Emerging from the forests of Belgrave come vibrant brass-clad acoustic duo The Bean Project. Featuring guitar and French horn, The Bean Project encompass the territory of folk, jazz and singer-songwriter genres, showcasing a distinctly unique style of original material. The duo's influences stretch from The Cat Empire to Johnny Cash and their sound has been most aptly described as 'the odd marriage of Cake, City and Color and Kings Of Convenience.

Vanishing Shapes originally formed at Newcastle Conservatorium of Music planning a once off performance of three traditional folk pieces. During improvised based rehearsals they wrote their first piece, The Road to the Cuckoo’s Nest, a twisting ten minute arrangement featuring bastardised renditions of the traditional melodies over constantly shifting harmonic and rhythmic textures. They have since been pushing themselves to defy the laws of tradition in folk music, creating narrative driven pieces that bounce between being playful, harrowing and ethereal. Vanishing Shapes have put out two releases; a full length album entitled Urcheon, and the concept EP Tiny Planets, which saw a landmark development in the band’s collaborative writing efforts.
