Taking influence from Klezmer, Celtic and Andean musical traditions and meshed with modern art music and progressive rock practices Vanishing Shapes are bringing their unique and eclectic style of folk music to Nimbin. Live performances feature their narrative driven pieces that bounce between being playful, harrowing and ethereal producing moments for dancing, internal reflection and escaping to other dimensions.

They will be on tour during April and May in celebration of the release of Tiny Planets, their most recent recording, which will be available at gigs and on Bandcamp early April. https://vanishingshapes.bandcamp.com/releases

A little about our new EP: Tiny Planets is a concept EP based on the dark origin story of our modern Australia, and echo’s the similarly shared history of many parts of the westernised world, exploring invasion of foreign lands and subjugation of traditional land owners. The EP presents the story of a fictional planet in which the people reject their leader who is then ejected in a driverless spacecraft. Community and peace return to the planet whilst the fallen leader contemplates an eternity of drifting through space. After the ship becomes dead in the orbit of another planet a plan to force a crash landing is hatched. Learning nothing, the ex-leader carries out an invasion with the aid of faithful supporters, once again imposing systems to oppress.

The April 9 show will be a lunchtime concert while the April 13 show will be their evening performance.
