InkMasters Cairns Inc third InkFest, a festival of printmaking, is on again this year! As well as the InkMasters Print Exhibition and the Big Print event, InkFest will again host weekend workshops in a range of mediums. This is a great opportunity to explore or extend your interest in printmaking under the guidance of our professional InkMaster printmakers.

The workshops are ideal for beginners as well as experienced artists.

Breaking news! The print you make in this workshop will be exhibited in “New Prints from InkFest 2016 Workshops” exhibition at the Tanks, adjacent to the international InkMasters Print Exhibition 29 Jul-21 Aug 16.

InkMaster Kerrie Cleverdon had a long and successful career as a designer working mostly in publishing and magazine design. She is now a full time artist printmaker and was trained in the mezzotint process at Barrier Reef TAFE, Townsville. She conducts regular workshops in a range of print mediums.

Mezzotint is method of creating an image from an engraving on copper or steel. It is made by burnishing or scraping away a uniformly roughened surface. In this type of intaglio print, subtle gradations of light and shade, rather than lines, form the image. Over the course of this workshop you will learn how to create a mezzotint and will gain a deeper appreciation of this art form. Kerrie will also give a brief overview of the history of mezzotint, and an introduction to contemporary mezzotint artists.
