This course is designed to teach beginners the foundation to painting with acrylic paint. Running for 5 weeks, students will walk away with a better understanding of how to confidently work with acrylic paint, colour theory, blending and shading, perspective, layering and composition. Outside the 5 week course, students will enjoy a complimentary session at Cork and Canvas where they can show-off their newly acquired skills.

Course Outline:

Week 1.

Learn about gradients and blending and how to get the most out of two-tone shading. Exploring colour theory, how to mix different colours and which ones are complimentary.

Week 2.

Put to practice the understanding of shading and colour theory with still life and observational painting and exploring form and perspective.

Week 3.

Learn about layering and how a painting is constructed, focal points and how to play with composition. Begin the first of two acrylic paintings that will incorporate the skills learnt to date.

Week 4.

Complete the painting commenced the previous week. Discuss each other’s work and what has been learnt thus far. Plan for the second of the two acrylic paintings.

Week 5.

Explore expression and personality, and how to loosen up and bring energy to an artwork. Commence and complete the second of the two acrylic paintings with the aim of achieving it within one sitting, and a focus on dynamic painting.
