Make Sunday, 29th October, A Wild Day Out with the family at WILDfest™ Southern Highlands.

Leave the noise, traffic and hustle ‘n bustle of the city for a day and discover the calming allure of nature at A Wild Day Out during WILDfest™ Southern Highlands. Only 90 minutes from Sydney, Joadja Old Town & Distillery is a unique 295ha property that is truly is a gem of world heritage significance and an intriguing part of Australia’s history.

For one day only, WILDfest™ Southern Highlands will host a family-friendly experience at Joadja Town and Distillery, from 11:30am to 6pm. There will be heritage tours of the old mining town ruins and the remote whisky distillery; wilderness walks for beginners and intermediate hikers alike, wildlife talks, captivating Spirit Walks, a bushland BBQ lunch, face painting, an authentic blacksmiths display and more.

Joadja Town is a very unique and special place. Its wilderness is unmatched in the area and the historical backdrop of colonial mining ruins are mesmerising. Only 30kms west of Mittagong, Joadja town was founded on a shale seam in 1878 and Scottish workers were brought out to Australia to mine it. The mine closed early in the 20th century, and the town was abandoned. The buildings were left to the elements, and nature has slowly regained its hold on much of the valley. The ruins that remain, entangled with the wild, tell the story of those that lived and worked here. The mining technology that made the valley so prosperous in its time stands as the last of its kind in the world.
Immerse yourself in nature for one very special Sunday, on October 29, as Australia’s exciting new wilderness experience festival opens the door to a world of wonder, out in The Wild.

The WILDfest™ Wild Day Out offers the whole family a rare experience of one of NSW most spectacular wilderness sites, with some dirt road fun, along unsealed bush tracks on the approach. All vehicles can access the site but we ask you to drive slowly and safely. Tickets must be pre-purchased. Entry is free for children 0–2 years of age.

The ticket price includes your choice of a heritage tour in a seated trailer behind a 4WD; a wilderness walk with one of the WILDfest™ guides, around Joadja Old Town; or a Spirit of the Wild-er-ness walk with shamanic guide Anthony Ashworth. Each experience takes approximately 90 minutes and you have the option of participating in more than one, for an additional $25 per person, per activity.
