The Dax Centre is celebrating 70 years of the Cunningham Dax Art Collection's use in promoting mental health with its new exhibition Disquiet Minds of Victoria.
This Exhibition highlights the ways that art was and continues to be of great use in mental health

In 1946 Dr Eric Cunningham Dax AO first commissioned an artist to encourage people with experience of mental illness to create art as a means to improve the communication of their experiences. In 1947 artworks produced by this initiative was first exhibited to an audience which lead to the adoption of art making a an adjunct to psychiatry in NHS.
The Dax Centre's new exhibition draws upon a large body of historical artwork to highlight Dr Dax’s innovation in psychiatry and art. The featured artworks from the Cunningham Dax Collection illustrate the evolving nature of mental health care in Victoria.
