She has been described as 'Australia’s rising star of jazz and blues' by Fine Music 102.5FM in Sydney and The Doo-Bop Jazz Club is delighted to welcome singer, piano player and songwriter Frances Madden for her Brisbane premiere. Her two performances at Doo-Bop are part of an eight-show East Coast tour that also takes in Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart and finishes at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival.

It has been a busy time for Frances. In the past year, she has supported the legendary Dionne Warwick and also Grammy Award-winner Gregory Porter here in Australia concerts and also headlined at the JZ Club in Shanghai. She has played to capacity crowds in her own shows at The Basement in Sydney as well as performances at the Manly Jazz Festival, Devonport Jazz Festival and the Hobart Festival of Voices. Fine Music 102.5 FM announced Frances as their Stefan Kruger Award winner for 2017.

Frances captivates her audiences with a combination of her genuinely warm stage presence along with a voice and style that are uniquely her own. She is a talented songwriter so when she performs her own swinging tunes and beautiful ballads, they merge seamlessly with the timeless classics she covers.

Frances has won praise for her interpretation of timeless classics but it is her own original tunes that have made her music popular with a much wider audience. As James Morrison put it: “Frances has a wonderful feeling for jazz and blues standards but what makes her a real stand-out are her original songs and unique style.”

As well as Frances on vocals and piano, her seven-piece band for the two shows at Doo-Bop Jazz Club includes some of Brisbane and Sydney's most talented jazz musicians. Frances says “We’ll be doing our Jazz, Blues & Classics show which includes some of my originals alongside our unique take on some timeless tunes. There will be some swing, some blues, some ballads, some lovely harmonies and also some improvisation from this great band. There will be something for everyone to enjoy so bring along some friends for dinner and we’ll make it a great evening for all.”

Early booking is recommended.
