Cobargo Creators’ next feature artist exhibition is a collection of works by Quaama artists Marilyn Banfield and Emily Laszuk.

Habitat: the natural home or environment of an animal, plant, or other organism. An exploration of our environment and what makes meaning for us. Nature motivates in art and life, awe inspiring and deeply moving.

“As the eucalypt stood still, plastered to the earth, mother nature’s bedroom floor, the flora and fauna slept.”

As the Eucalypt Stood Still, Malacai R, Nowra High School.

The theme is explored through Emily’s lustre work and its earthy intense colours created by the use of the ancient technique of reduced Arabic lustreware. These elegant pieces are contrasted with works featuring the animals who share Emily’s life, including the cats and dogs who love the sunny warmth of her studio and the roosters and hens who are the embodiment of happiness as they cluck their way through life.

Marilyn’s textiles display her love of the local landscape and delight in observing the seasonal fluctuations, the comings and goings of animals and birds and the ever-changing colours & texture of the trees and the surrounding natural environment. The stitches explore use of the line and add texture, tone and movement. The threads lay down textured marks and add dimension. The alchemy of leaf imprints display the natural rhythm of seasonal practice, the fallen and gathered leaves impart a beautiful memory of colour.

Join Marilyn and Emily from 11am on Saturday October 14 for the opening, meet and chat with the artists and enjoy refreshments while admiring their work. The exhibition continues in Black Wattle Gallery—your showcase space for beautiful things in The Cobargo Creators Centre 60 Princes Highway Cobargo until 1pm Saturday October 28.
