Halloween Organ: New War – Trouble In The Air

When:

Tue 31 Oct 2017, 7:30pm

Where: Melbourne Town Hall, Cnr Swanston & Collins Street, Melbourne CBD, Victoria

Restrictions: All Ages

This Halloween, Melbourne band New War will perform a new City of Melbourne commissioned song cycle written for electronics, bass guitar, voice and the Melbourne Town Hall Grand Organ. The Melbourne Town Hall Grand Organ is the biggest of its kind (Grand Romantic) in the Southern Hemisphere. Originally built in 1929, it uses ninety thousand cubic feet of air every minute and can produce anything from a piercing whistle to roaring thunder. Free admission, bookings required.

"Trouble in the Air" is best described as a cold dream of uncertainty & rupture. It is the first new music from New War since 2013's eponymous debut on ATP Recordings. Since forming in 2008, New War has toured Australia and the UK, played festivals like All Tomorrow's Parties and Mona Foma, shared stages with the Sun Ra Arkestra, My Bloody Valentine, Wire, EMA, Liars, Neu!/Harmonia and Laughing Clowns, been remixed by HTRK and Gossip, and received critical acclaim from publications such as The Quietus.

Part of the evening's highlights will be the performance of atmospheric new experimental electronic works by composers from RMIT's Digital Media program.
