This event will be really special - Situated in a new room, new jazz venue, new piano, Michael Tortonis new place The Jazzlab in Brunswick.

Piano fiend and enigmatic genius singer-songwriter Hue Blanes, PBS Young Elder of Jazz 2017 and 2017 Green Room multiple nominee, releases his second solo album 'Holiday'. A stunning bleakly comic song cycle featuring Hue's virtuoso singing and piano, the album is a very human story of loneliness, despair and the difficult search for meaning amongst the everyday tedium of being human, told in Hue's trademark wryly moving style.

The songs, covering ground from depressed soccer stars to owls hunting field mice, think Phillip Glass meets Jeff Buckley meets David Foster Wallace; somewhere outside of the usual genre boxes, somewhere in all of them; jazz, classical, artsong, pop, the album is a rare and musically sophisticated work, ahead of it's time yet deceptively simple. Just Hue, sitting at his piano singing his stripped back melancholy.

The album is a vinyl release on Melbourne's Pound Records and is accompanied by a booklet of mysterious original drawings, pencil illuminations of the songs by illustrator Bernard Caleo,
Hue will perform a very limited number of intimate shows to launch the album, a not to be missed chance to encounter a man who is one of Australia's most startlingly illuminating and original performers.

The night will open with a piano solo set from Joe O'Connor.
