Following her 2017 Melbourne International Jazz Festival sell-out debut, Jackie Bornstein presents her new show; "From Paris to Brazil". Driven by her love of languages Jackie has chosen an all French, Spanish and Portuguese program. Bringing her rich tones and talent for storytelling through song, Jackie takes her audience on a journey through the jazz manouche of Paris, the nuevo canción of Chile and the bossa nova of Brazil. Featuring a mixture of swing, bossa and poetry driven songs by influential composers including, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Michel Legrand, Kurt Weill, Jacques Brel, Violetta Para and more.

Jackie Bornstein

Jackie Bornstein is one of Melbourne's most captivating singers. Known for her rich tones and ability to get to the heart of a tune, Jackie brings a powerful energy to each performance. She is a regular at Melbourne’s top jazz venues performing alongside a selection of Australia’s finest jazz musicians. Trained classically as a child, Jackie went on to study jazz at the Victorian College of the Arts and completed a UK Masters scholarship on the role of music in in resolving conflict. She has developed her own style, imparting a range of emotions through her use of varied vocal timbres.

Nathan Slater (guitar)
Virtuosic guitarist Nathan Slater plays with incredible sensitivity, drawing upon the traditions of jazz, flamenco, tango, and Brazilian music. He has performed/recorded with such artists as La Rumba, One night in Buenos Aires, Ross James Irwin, and Australian tango Champion dancers Fabio Roble and Ana Andre.

Sam Keevers (piano)
One of Australia’s finest improvising pianists, Sam has performed with many of the most noted local and International musicians including Bernie McGann, Kate Ceberano, Katie Noonan, Vince Jones, Sinead O’connor, and Meshell Ndegeocello. Sam has composed for feature films and television and was nominated for an ARIA award for the album “Grace” (a duo recording with Jamie Oehlers).

Ben Hanlon (bass)
Versatile bassist Ben Hanlon performs with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as well as gigging around Melbourne’s jazz venues with esteemed artists including Hue Blanes, James Sherlock and Olivia and Joe Chindamo. Ben has travelled across America, Europe and Asia for study and touring, and performed a solo on David Hirschfelder’s score for 2016 film The Dressmaker.

Ryan Menezes (drums)
A drummer whose versatility and sensitivity to music has found him playing in various situations from Afro-Cuban, Brazilian and Various Jazz settings to Pop/Rock and R&B projects with local as well as international artists. Among others, Ryan has performed/recorded with Gary Pinto, Sam Keevers, Alex Pertout, Los Cabrones and The Tom Fryer Quartet.
