Think of Jen Lush as a slow-motion Jenny Lewis with the fragility of Eva Cassidy and Hope Sandoval. Tempered by the Australian-ness of The Waifs and Ry Cooder at his most cosmic. The Night’s Insomnia takes its cues from all over the national map transforming the work of acclaimed Australian poets into song.

Each poem is as varied as the poets themselves and the country they tread. Some carry political and environmental weight to them, others touch on the internal complexities inside our relationships or the tangle and tease of our inner thoughts, evoking the feelings and space around things that might keep us awake in the small hours. Poets from across Australia including Cate Kennedy, Kevin Brophy, Esther Ottaway, Ali Cobby Eckermann, David Brooks, Steve Brock, Juan Garrido-Salgado, Jill Jones, Kathryn Hummel, Nathan Curnow and Renee Pettitt-Schipp.

Jen Lush with Chris Parkinson (The Yearlings) Tara Carragher, Richard Coates and Mark Seddon, take hold of the poetry and thread it through with music and soundscapes. Sparse arrangements leave words and emotions front and centre, channelling the poets’ disparate and intimate viewpoints into a singular, heartfelt, musical expression.

Stark and spacious, darkly fleeting, bold and beautifully teetering on the edges of folk, alt-country and something entirely it’s own. Acoustic steel string, searing electric drones and percussive guitars, luminous floating melodies and tides of longing, vocal harmonies underpinned by electronic soundscapes and lilting accordion.

“Parkinson's delicately picked guitar reflects the ‘clear rain’, and Lush's spacious vocal gives weight to the potent imagery. ’It means letting the soft words of a hundred birds fly into you.’ Wonderful stuff.” John Baker, The Baker Suite

Tara Carragher

Adelaide based singer songwriter Tara Carragher combines her love of alt-country and her folk roots as a dynamic and seasoned performer, having toured and recorded in both Australia and the USA. In 2016 she releases her new EP 'Wicked World', the follow up to her acclaimed 2012 album 'Big River Crossing', recorded in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

The title track to her new EP ‘Wicked World’ has already reached number two on AMRAP’s national charts this year, receiving airplay throughout Australia. Raw, honest, captivating and skillfully executed, her music features collaborations with American artists, the award winning New Mexican musician CW Ayon, and highly respected guitarist CR Humphrey from the Mississippi blues duo Old Gray Mule.

“Tara Carragher is one of our finest folk artists.” - Rip it Up

“The ear-pleasing sounds of Carragher and Wicked World…a wondrously good listen.” - Spreading the Seed
