Following a spectacular inaugural year in 2016 attracting over 50,000 people, Kaleidoscope Festival (WA’s world-class light and illumination festival) returns for its second year, set to transform Joondalup City Centre into an extraordinary wonderland of electrifying illumination and art from 9th to 12th November.

True to its namesake, Kaleidoscope Festival 2017 will be a vibrant visual feast for all the senses. Combining world-class illumination, art, installations, music and food, the program for 2017 is set to be even bigger and better. The festival is free, family friendly and accessible for everyone to enjoy.

Over four evenings, Joondalup City Centre will become an interactive living, breathing entertainment hub - a true ‘City of the Future’. Music and food will commence at 5pm, and lights are on from 7.30pm to 10.30pm. Event organisers are expecting attendances to top last year’s figure and have expanded the festival site and food and beverage offering to accommodate.

Major highlights for 2017 include:

Fantastic Planet – by Amanda Parer (Tasmania)
Two giant illuminated humanoid figures will invade Joondalup for this year’s Kaleidoscope Festival. These giants, from afar, give audiences the impression that they have just landed and are quietly and gently exploring our ‘fantastic planet’.

All You Need Is Love – by Carla O’Brien (Victoria)
Dubbed ‘Selfie Heaven’, “All You Need Is Love” is a fun and interactive walk-through installation featuring 20 neon objects by Melbourne artist Carla O’Brien. Musically underscored by the classic Beatles hit “All You Need is Love”, visitors are compelled to engage with each of the items with selfies and social media uploads. Superstar singer Katy Perry helped make Carla O’Brien’s neon angels wings (showcasing at Kaleidoscope and spanning 4 metres wide) go global after she posted photos of herself with them on Instagram at Burning Man festival 2016.

Face Off – by David Jones (Victoria)
Want to see your face projected onto Lotteries House? FaceOff is all about you being the star of the show as a giant stylised rendition of your face appears live for the enjoyment (amusement) of the large crowd. You are the projection - so goof off and pull as many weirdo faces as you like. And, if you make the audience laugh, you will get a lollypop!

The City of Joondalup and the innovative bodies behind WA’s most extraordinary light and technology festival encourage everyone to lock the date in their diary. The inaugural festival in 2016 appealed to all; families sharing something truly inspiring, creatives, students, those interested in the latest technologies, culture and entertainment lovers, and those looking for the ultimate date night.
