You are invited to the launch of Platform Papers No. 53: The Jobbing Actor: Rules of Engagement by Lex Marinos!

Presented by Hannie Rayson, one of Australia's most significant playwrights. Hannie is the author of fourteen plays, including Hotel Sorrento (1991), which was made into a feature film in 1995. Hannie co-founded Theatreworks and has been recognised with two Australian Writers’ Guild Awards, four Helpmann Awards, and The Sidney Myer Performing Arts Award, amongst other awards and recognition.

Lex Marinos, a familiar face on stage and screen, reflects on the demands his work has made on his body, mind and family; and pronounces it a life well lived. As an Australian-born Greek he was cast as Bruno, in the TV comedy Kingswood Country (1980-84) and won the right to use his Australian accent, a smart move, Lex says "...considering the changed social climate that was finally acknowledging Australia's multiculturalism."

A lasting record of his talent is his acclaimed role as Manolis in the ABC TV series The Slap (2011).
If you are a subscriber, or would like to attend the event without purchasing a copy of Lex's book, get in touch and we will make arrangements. Email Nicole Beyer at

There will be drinks afterwards at The Coopers Malthouse Bar (cash bar at happy hour prices!) and nibbles provided. We look forward to celebrating one of Australia's favourite actors and learning more about the evolution of Lex's extensive career and his relationship with diversified representations on Australian screen and stage.

Hosted and supported by Malthouse Theatre, Theatre Network Australia and Currency House.
