Miles Davis on Prestige

Kate Richards presents the hits from the classic Miles Davis albums Steamin', Cookin’, Workin’ and Relaxin’. In 1956 Davis and his First Great Quintet, over two sessions, recorded many standards in order to complete his contract with his record label at the time, Prestige. Since then, these albums have become all time jazz classics.

Featuring:

Lachlan Karl Hamilton - Tenor Saxophone
Dan Mather - Piano
Harry Morrison - Double Bass
Patrick-Earl Danao - Drums

Kate Richards is an 19 year old trumpet player from Sydney. She has recently completed her second year at the James Morrison Academy in Mount Gambier studying under Mat Jodrell, Jeff Clayton (US), Wycliffe Gordon (US), Troy Roberts, Angela Davis, Ross Irwin, Graeme Lyall and James himself. Kate has performed in prestigious venues such as the Sydney Opera House and Bird's Basement (Melbourne) and has performed with James Morrison and Gileno Santana (Portugal/Brazil). In 2015 Kate was also selected for the big band in the NSW Schools Spectacular and for the NSW State Schools Wind Band which performed at the Sydney Opera House. In 2014 she won the Jann Rutherford Mentorship Award which allowed her to study with Ellen Kirkwood after participating in SIMA's Young Women in Jazz workshops with Sandy Evans and Alex Silver.
