Internationally recognised herbalist, author and artist Ruth Sharkey is proud to announce the culmination of 20 years work with the release of her first novel.

Set in the hinterland of Australia’s Gold Coast during the political times of the late 20th century, Makara’s Mission shares with optimism and humour an interweaving of ancient myths, beliefs and traditions with modern political intrigue, religious abuse, domestic violence, medical bullying and pharmaceutical corruption.

The fast-paced journey of the family of an incarnate master, his mission—unbeknownst to his adult children—will have a profound effect on their close-knit family as it weaves an intricate tapestry of loose ends with unanswered questions.

Each in their own way accepts the challenge to fight for change—ecological, medical and governmental—yet none foresee the impact the old man’s mission will have on their families.

A modern take on David and Goliath; one man’s fight against the mighty. Today’s Goliath’s are the multinational corporate institutions who have the money and power to swing the balance and destroy any opposition.

Come enjoy a glass of wine or two as we celebrate this massive achievement - while listening to a story or two from her 20 years in practice.

Now retired and living in Woodbridge, Makara’s Mission is loosely based on events Ruth, her husband Dennis and their family experienced, and is laced with humour, mythology, and philosophical, spiritual concepts.

Ruth and her husband Dennis created and operated one of the largest natural therapies clinics in the southern hemisphere for over 20 years, in that time Ruth co-hosted two talk- back radio programmes for eleven and 13 years consecutively, wrote regular articles for natural health magazines, and produced eight books. Recognition for her work in helping so-called infertile couples to conceive resulted in her being dubbed ‘The Baby Maker’ by the media, with many national and international appearances and various lifestyle magazines worldwide.
