The sixth annual Sydney International Women's Jazz Festival opens with “one of the most unforgettably lyrical voices in modern music” - trumpeter Nadje Noordhuis, here from NYC, and vibraphonist James Shipp (USA).

“One of the most compelling voices to emerge on her instrument in recent years.” – All About Jazz

For five years, Nadje and James have performed their innovative blend of electronics with vibraphone and trumpet around New York City together. Their debut album as a duo, Indigo, is released to coincide with their Australian performances.

Nadje is here as one of the National Jazz Awards judges, coming to us from Wangaratta International Jazz Festival. In New York, she plays with the Maria Schneider Orchestra, Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society, Rudy Royston 303, and leads her own quintet.

The evening begins with Nadje and James’ magical duo compositions, after which they’re joined on-stage by the festival band.
