As the winter chill subsides, visit Mirvac's Yarra's Edge and take a walk along the riverbank to gaze upon Melbourne's newest public art addition, a science fiction-inspired glowing sculpture that emerges up to six metres out of the Yarra River in Docklands' precinct Yarra's Edge.
Light Buoys, a spectacular 50-metre artwork by Melbourne artist Tracy Sarroff, consists of 16 buoyant crystalline shards made from opaque acrylic, serving as a vibrant new addition Melbourne’s public art offering. Light Buoys provides viewers an interactive experience, illuminating with different colours when activated by pedestrians passing by.
When pedestrians are not around to activate the work, it will pulse softly, imitating the breathing and resting of a living organism. As a tribute to the natural heritage of the riverbank site, the Light Buoys installation, commissioned by Yarra’s Edge developer, Mirvac, is inspired by the formation of reeds that are native to the Yarra and once lined its banks all the way to Birrarung Marr.
