This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Australian victory at Beersheba, secured by the Australian Light Horse—marking one of the last successful cavalry charges in history. Military historian and author David Cameron and journalist and writer Paul Daley will discuss their different approaches to telling the story of this significant battle and the hardships faced by those on the Middle Eastern front. Cameron will discuss his book The Charge, which pieces together the full story of the Australian Light Horse victory at Beersheba and which was published in July of this year. First published in 2009, Daley’s book Beersheba sheds light on the story that has slipped through the cracks of history.

Session Chair: Mark Beasley

Presented as part of the Word for Word Non-Fiction Festival 2017.
