Orpheus seeks Eurydice in the underworld. He turns, and she is gone. So Orpheus seeks Eurydice in the underworld. He turns, and she is gone. Orpheus seeks. He turns. She is gone.

Orpheus Turns is a theatrical reimagining of Orpheus’ plight as a ritual of mourning. The show invites audiences to walk with Orpheus into the underworld, and turn back to look at the processes of grief and cultural memory. Mythic, gothic, hallucinatory, melancholic, this site-specific piece draws inspiration from diverse practices of grieving to express a contradiction at the heart of the grieving process, a conflict between moving forward and looking back.

Orpheus Turns is co-created by Joanna Pidcock and James Christensen, and will be presented in and around the Emerald City performance hub at Meat Market.
