Perth Symphonic Chorus presents Brahms’ German Requiem.

Conductor: Margaret Pride
Soloists: Sara Macliver (Soprano) and Christopher Richardson (Baritone)
Organist: David Drury

The artistic and critical triumphs which have characterised the performances in the Perth Symphonic Chorus’ 2017 Choral Series to date are set to continue in the third concert of the series, Brahms’ German Requiem. Brahms was at the peak of his powers when he composed this towering work which is considered to be one of the finest marriages between music and text ever written.

From the opening chorus ‘Blessed are They’, through the much loved ‘How Lovely are Thy Dwellings’ to the finale ‘Blessed are the Dead’, this exquisite work combines extraordinary rich choral tone with full orchestration and lyrical solos. Brahms’ German Requiem never fails to leave the listener profoundly moved.

Perth-born soprano Sara Macliver requires no introduction to Perth audiences. She is one of the most popular and versatile singers in Australia today, as evidenced by her acclaimed performance in Concert 1 of the 2017 Choral Series in May. Appearing on stage with Sara will be Christopher Richardson, regarded as possibly Australia’s most promising emerging bass-baritone. Christopher makes a welcome return to Perth Symphonic Chorus following his performance in Handel’s Messiah last year.
