As part of Waverley Council's Screen Citizens program series, we are celebrating Australian film and local Bondi/Waverley film makers. Film discussions will be hosted by film critic, Peter Castaldi.

Bran Nue Dae is an Australian musical comedy-drama film directed by Rachel Perkins and written by Rachel Perkins and Reg Cribb. The feature film is a coming of age story of an Aboriginal teenager on a road trip in the late 1960s and is an adaptation of an original stage musical by Jimmy Chi.

Bran Nue Dae won Audience Award for Best Feature from the Melbourne International Film Festival and the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Cast Includes: Rocky McKenzie, Jessica Mauboy, Ernie Dingo, Missy Higgins, Geoffrey Rush, Deborah Mailman, Dan Sultan, Magda Szubanski.

Guest Speaker will be the Producer of Bran Nue Dae, Graeme Isaac who is a documentary and feature film producer whose works including the Indigenous Rock & Roll road movie Wrong Side of the Road (1981), and the award winning Arnhem Land documentary Dhakiyarr Vs The King (2005)

Graeme will join Peter Castaldi on stage to talk about the making of the film and it's story from songs to stage musical to feature film.
